Keeping in mind the current pandemic situation and future prospects of online shopping, Samsung has launched three new initiatives to offer more incentives to online buyers. These include Samsung’s Referral, Student and Shop programs on its website. Samsung's official online website Samsung.com is getting a lot of attention lately and according to them, it is expected to gain a total of 400 million visitors by 2020.
In a press release, Samsung says the unique Referral program will get discounts up to 8% for friends and family on purchasing premium mobile and consumer electronics via the referral link in the website. While the exact list of premium products is not mentioned it says the offer is applicable to 15+ products including smartphones, tablets and wearables.
Also, the person who refers the link will get vouchers up to ₹1,500 after his/her friends complete the transaction successfully. This is a great move as e-commerce giants like Amazon, Flipkart are always running some sort of discount like instant cashbacks to attract consumers.
Just like the referral program, the Student program doesn’t have an explicit catalogue of products but promises special prices for students with VAS like complimentary insurance, easy exchange and EMI options. Students will have to access it via their official college email-ID or get it authorized by a verification agency.
Going by the name, the Shop 20K program promises users for 10 shopping vouchers up to Rs 20,000 on successful registration with the required details in the Samsung Shop app. Each of these vouchers will be available for categories including Smartphones, Televisions, Washing Machines, Refrigerators, Microwave, Tablets, Smartwatches, True Wireless Audio, Accessories and Harman/JBL.
The voucher will go up to ₹2,000 each depending on the transaction value and will be valid for 365 days. That said, the 10 vouchers in different categories will make a total of Rs 20,000 and looking at the offers, it seems like Samsung is giving separate attention to the app version.
Speaking about the programs, Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Samsung India, said, “For Samsung, the Online Store (Samsung.com) is a key focus area for growth and we are targeting 10% of our overall business in mobiles and consumer electronics through this important channel,”.
Asus has announced four new laptops in its ZenBook and VivoBook line-up in India. Powered by the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors, these new devices are aimed at answering the increased demand of portable laptops and are priced across multiple segments of the market.
The ZenBook range from Asus carries a premium metal design and is highly portable thanks to their thin and light build. The new laptops are available in 13-inch and 14-inch IPS displays boasting 1920x1080 resolution with 100% sRGB colour gamut. The ZenBook UX325 comes with 2.9-mm bezel offering 88% screen-to-body ratio while the ZenBook 14 UX425 comes with an even thinner 2.5 mm bezel and a 90% screen-to-body ratio. These laptops are lightweight and weigh 1.11 kg and 1.17 kg respectively.
The new ZenBooks come with an ErgoLift hinge that raises the keyboard slightly to offer a better typing experience on the keyboard that stretches from end to end. The onboard IR camera offers password-free face login with Windows Hello.
Both the laptops are available with 10th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 CPU options coupled with up to 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM and Intel UHD Graphics. Both the variants can be configured with up to 1TB of PCIe SSD for storage.
For wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 6 is present onboard and in terms of ports, there are two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, an HDMI 2.0 and a MicroSD Reader.
The laptop draws power from a 67Wh lithium-polymer battery that Asus claims can offer up to 22 hours of battery life and ships with a 65W type C power adapter. Both the ZenBook 13 and 14 will run on Windows 10 Home out of the box and Asus is offering Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019 bundled with the laptops.

The VivoBook S14 S433 weighs just 1.4 Kgs and is built out of aluminium alloy with a diamond-cut design. Both the VivoBooks have a 14-inch display each and the VivoBook S14 comes with a 14" LED-backlit IPS panel offering Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. It comes with a tiny bezel on three sides of the display offering 85% screen to body ratio.
The VivoBook S14 is available with 10th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors coupled with NVIDIA MX250 for graphics and up to 8 GB RAM. The laptop ships with 512GB SSD storage and is upgradable up to 1TB.
The Vivobook Ultra K14, on the other hand, comes equipped with a 10th Gen Intel i3 or i5 CPU coupled with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 and up to 8 GB RAM. For storage, even the Ultrabook K14 comes with a 512 GB SSD storage.

The hugely ballyhooed antitrust hearing where the chief executives of America’s largest tech firms testified in front of US lawmakers was a typical affair of thrust and parry. It was also, as the cliche goes, immovable object against unstoppable force.
The lawmakers, investigating competition in digital marketplaces, were aggressive and relentless. The four marque names from the industry, Sundar Pichai, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Jeff Bezoz were, for their part, unyielding and steadfast.
Whatever may be the eventual outcome of the hearing, it was good theatre.
Among the four, Pichai and Zuckerberg seemed to face more questions. Both of them seemed well prepared. Especially the Google Alphabet CEO. He was pretty comfortable in articulating his company's case. Cook was posed the least amount of questions. Bezos was put under enormous pressure over his company's business tactics.
Here are some of the key takeaways for us from the meeting that lasted close to six hours.
As the world's richest person was making his first appearance before the Congress, his testimony held more attraction than others.
Bezos was put under the cosh particularly on Amazon's approach to pricing, acquisitions and how it uses data from third-party sellers.
Many times the aggressive nature of the questions seemed to put him on the backfoot, and he deadbatted them by saying he couldn't answer the question or couldn't recall the incident.
In response to repeated questions on use of nonpublic third-party seller data, Bezos said that Amazon had a policy prohibiting such practices. "But I can’t guarantee you that that policy has never been violated,” he added.

Zuckerberg found himself in the hot seat when he was confronted with the internal company emails he sent in 2012 about buying Instagram.
The lawmakers, using the emails, made a case that Facebook viewed Instagram as a threat and, rather than compete with it, the company bought it out completely.
Zuckerberg adroitly handled the situation, without exactly denying the charge, but by pointing out that the whole deal was cleared by the Federal Trade Commission.

Of the four, Cook received the fewest questions, most of which were centered on Apple's App Store policies. As one analyst pointed out Cook seemed to have an easy time as there was hardly anything probing about Apple's App Store guidelines for developers, which have been a main complaint among critics.
Cook used the occasion to play the America card. "Apple is a uniquely American company whose success is only possible in this country," Cook said as he reeled out the number of US jobs it has helped create.

Pichai faced as much scrutiny as did Zuckerberg, but the former looked unscathed and came across as being well prepared for any kind of grilling.
Pichai was questioned over Google’s content policies and potential ties to the Chinese government. Pichai was particularly nagged by the Republicans who felt that Google held a bias against coservatives. The Google chief, who seemed relaxed and at ease, said: There's nothing in the algorithm that has anything to do with political ideology. We do get complaints across the aisle."

One of the interesting things that emerged during the questioning through videoconferencing was that these tech majors were not beyond the techno bloopers that afflict the rest of us commoners, as it were.
At one point, Bezos spoke without unmuting himself. There were some glictches in his video quite early in the meeting. Zuckeberg's voice and video did not match at one point.
As we said, it was all pure theatre.
Samsung’s popular M series of mid-rangers has a new member today, with the Galaxy M31s. It continues to provide a big battery experience while improving other aspects.
Introduced in early 2019, the Samsung Galaxy M series has amassed more than 10 million sales in the period since. The M30 family is perhaps the best-selling of the lot. With the M31s, Samsung is trying to bring elements from its premium smartphones to the mid-range.
The M31s brings a refined design with a gradient finish on the glasstic back and a big display on the front. It is the first time an Inifnity-O Super AMOLE display is seen on a budget Samsung device. It’s a 6.5-inch panel with a Full HD+ resolution, HDR10+ compliance and a peak brightness of 210 nites. The fingerprint scanner is now embedded within the power button on the right. The entire package is about 9.3mm thick.
On the inside, the Samsung Galaxy M31s continues to be powered by the Snapdragon 9611 chipset. It’s an ageing platform built on the 10nm process with eight cores. That is paired with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. As always, the battery size is the highlight of the device. This time, we’re looking at a 6,000mAh battery pack with support for 25W fast charging over USB Type-C. To take its utility to the next level, a Type-C to Type-C cable will be included in the box to reverse charge other smartphones. As for software, it will run on One UI 2.1.
Samsung is calling the Galaxy M31s’s camera as “India’s leading 64MP Intelli-cam” stack. It starts with a 64MP f/1.8 primary camera, followed by a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with a 123-degree field-of-view, a 5MP depth sensor for portraits and a 5MP macro lens. Selfies are handled by a 32MP camera. Single Take, a feature introduced on the flagship S20 series also makes the cut. When enabled, it lets users click in multiple photo and video modes at the same time.

Recent events have highlighted that exclusion, discrimination and prejudice are sadly very much still a part of our world. We all have a responsibility to advocate and bring forth change in the form of equality and fairness. In the tech world, the statistics about diversity and inclusion speak for themselves: only around 11% of senior leadership roles are held by women, and women of color only make up 4% of the computing workforce. Clearly, there is much work to be done.
Diversity and inclusion are foundational to Intel’s values, but we recognize we need to improve and grow as a business. This is why we recently announced our 2030 goals, with commitments including doubling the numbers of women and underrepresented minorities in senior roles in the next ten years. However, we’re also very aware – as has long been the case in the tech industry – that pledges are nothing without action and accountability. It’s why we’re also proposing the creation of a new standard industry index, informed by, and in partnership with, existing diversity frameworks.
The index will help companies, investors, and advocacy groups to identify any and all sources of bias and prejudice in their talent pipelines. We are adamant that this index will help organisations to act, enabling us to work together to address this global change and make real, lasting changes.
We implore all organisations to make diversity and inclusion core to their culture and values, rather than viewing it as a tick-box exercise. Large organisations have a global footprint, and the cultural standard they set is weaved into the lives of their employees. Being ethical and moral at an enterprise level is key to setting a new benchmark and making a positive difference.
Diversity also has numerous business benefits that have been well documented. For example, research from McKinsey shows that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity outperform their competitors by 15%, and those in the top quartile for ethnic diversity outperform their competitors by 35%. Diversity brings with it a melting pot of different perspectives, ideas and backgrounds, all of which create an excellent habitat for innovation.
Change starts with action. To help your company move from pledges to a reality, we have identified four crucial steps for improving diversity and inclusion, which are already working well in our own organisation.
It all starts with culture: An inclusive and diverse culture appreciates and nurtures employees from all backgrounds. It encourages employees to be themselves and celebrates their differences. Business leaders should support their workforce’s individuality and ensure that minority employees feel empowered and psychologically safe inside the workplace.
Cultural inclusion also extends to empowering employees with disabilities; for example, making sure job applications are accessible to all candidates and designing software, hardware, and services so that a wide range of users—including people with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities—are able to navigate and understand digital content on websites, mobile applications, and electronic devices. This kind of culture will foster creativity and drive business results, as well as improving employee retention and progression.
Assessing the boardroom: Leadership positions in technology are predominantly held by white man; this is a barrier to diversity. On the other hand, having a more balanced boardroom will help to alter any unconsciously biased decision-making, as well as motivate employees, indicating that there is a path forward and upwards within the company. Organisations must ensure that they are embedding inclusive leadership practices into their culture and fostering a diverse talent pipeline.
Reviewing hiring practices: Managers and HR teams must make sure that unconscious bias is obsolete in the hiring process and beyond. If not created already, it is a necessity that businesses have protocols in place to ensure this. Examples of these best practices, which we have applied at Intel, include posting of formal requisitions using impartial descriptions of qualifications for all open jobs, and having diverse slates of candidates and diverse hiring panels.
The power of leadership councils: Leadership Councils act as a support system for employees and builds a sense of allyship. At Intel, we have the Intel Disability Leadership Council, Veteran Leadership Council, Black Leadership Council, The Intel Network of Executive Women (INEW)and many others to help advance leaders within their respective communities.
Large technology organisations have a corporate social responsibility to improve diversity in the industry; this responsibility is not something to be shied away from or buried in words that do not lead to action. For too long, progress has been slow. Change is needed, and there is no better time to act than now. Only until the industry unifies and starts working together to develop initiatives that unroot biases and discrepancies will we see long-lasting change and have created a better future for everyone.
With the Galaxy Note 20 launch just a week away, all eyes will be on what upgrades Samsung brings to the table. While the chipset might remain unchanged, there might be a silver lining.
While Samsung flagship like the Note series and the S series are powered by Snapdragon chipsets in the US and European markets, they come with Exynos chipset in Asian markets such as India. It often tends to lose out on the performance front against Qualcomm Snapdragon counterparts. However, a new leak suggests some good news in this regard.
According to a tweet by Anthony, a Youtuber, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will continue to be powered by the Exynos 990 chipset, but with major improvements in terms of the performance and efficiency. These optimizations should bring it closer to the Snapdragon 865 series. He even suggested that it is almost like an “Exynos 990 Plus”, and Samsung will talk about this at length going forward.
The Exynos chipset is meant to help them boost both hardware and software performance since both the device and the chipset are made by Samsung. But, until now, the case has been the opposite. With the Note 20 series, Samsung will achieve the same performance on both the Snapdragon and Exynos variant with a better optimization on the Exynos chipset to match the performance on the Snapdragon variant.
The Galaxy Note 20 series will come with two devices, the vanilla Note 20 and the Note 20 Ultra. The display is said to be a dynamic AMOLED with a 6.9-inch 120Hz QHD+ on Note 20 Ultra and 6.7-inch 120Hz FHD+ on the Note 20. Both will have 4,500mAh and 4,300mAh batteries respectively and will have RAM up to 12GB and 256/512GB storage options.
As for the optics, the Ultra will have a 108MP primary, 12MP wide-angle and a periscope lens with 5x optical 50x digital zoom while the sibling Note 20 will sport a 64MP telephoto with 3x optical and 30x digital and two 12MP primary and wide-angle sensors.
Samsung is hosting its first virtual Unpacked event on August 5. It is expected to launch at least five new devices including the Note 20 series, Tablet, a smartwatch, and a noise cancellation TWS.
AMD has revealed that its first GPU designed specifically for computing and based on CDNA architecture will become available later this year. Being developed primarily for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC) applications, the new Radeon Instinct will compete against Nvidia’s recently launched A100 GPU based on the Ampere architecture.
Having realized early enough that GPUs for AI and HPC require support for features and instructions that are not necessarily needed by consumers, Nvidia has launched several datacenter-specific GPUs that have been adopted by hundreds AI and HPC-oriented machines. To that end, the multi-billion dollar GPU computing market is largely dominated by Nvidia today.
AMD released its first datacenter GPU — the GCN-based Vega II — back in late 2018 and while the unit has not been as successful as parts from Nvidia, it is currently used by multiple cloud service providers and HPC customers.
AMD’s next attempt on the server GPU front embraces its new CDNA architecture that is tailored primarily for AI as well as HPC and therefore promises to be a better fit for respective customers. AMD expects to launch its first CDNA-based Radeon Instinct MI100 GPU in the second half of the year.
“We expect [datacenter GPU] revenue to increase in the second half of the year, as additional cloud-based visual computing wins ramp and we launch our new CDNA data center GPU architecture optimized for next generation exascale and machine learning workloads,” said Lisa Su, chief executive of AMD.
AMD’s first CDNA GPU reportedly derives from the Vega II (GCN 1.5) processor, features new vector ALUs, Bfloat16 support, and is codenamed Arcturus. The company does not project its first CDNA GPU to significantly contribute to its revenues in 2020. AMD says that its datacenter GPUs will become a significant growth opportunity in 2021 and beyond, which is not surprising as such processors will be used in the upcoming Frontier and El Capitan supercomputers.
“We see [datacenter GPUs] as a multi-year opportunity, but it is not a big revenue contributor here in 2020,” said Su. “But we see growth opportunity as we go into 2021 and beyond.”
With Samsung expected to unveil its highly anticipated Galaxy Fold 2 alongside the Galaxy Note 20 at its virtual Unpacked event next week, it was only a matter of time before some official-looking renders leaked online.
That leak has come courtesy of MySmartPrice, which claims to have received the images of the supposed device from a trusted (yet undisclosed) source, showing a number of massive improvements for the second-generation model.
The images show the purported Galaxy Fold successor from several angles and in black and bronze color variants – the same colors shown off in numerous leaks of Samsung's Galaxy Note 20 – you can see the rest of the alleged Galaxy Fold 2 renders over at MySmartPrice's website.
Based on what we can ascertain from the leaked images, it appears that Samsung has addressed two of the biggest criticisms of the original Galaxy Fold, namely its small outer display and huge interior notch.
The leaked images show an updated Galaxy Fold with a full-size outer display with minimal bezels, making the device look more like a traditional phone when closed, along with a tiny pinhole camera positioned at the upper right side of the interior display.
Additionally, the renders show an updated triple camera on the device's rear, appearing in an identical array to what we've seen from leaks of Samsung's standard Note 20.
What's unknown is whether Samsung has opted to upgrade the flimsy plastic display that featured in the original Galaxy Fold to the vastly superior flexible glass from the sturdier Galaxy Z Flip.
As with any leak, the renders shouldn't be considered final until Samsung itself officially unveils them. Thankfully, we won't have to wait long – the Galaxy Fold 2 will likely be revealed alongside the Galaxy Note 20 on August 5, 2020.

Teclast has been a regular fixture on TechRadar Pro over the past few years and we've reviewed roughly a dozen of its various products. Now, the company has announced an entry level Android tablet (the P20HD) which, at the time of writing, is the most affordable 4G LTE tablet on the market.
We haven’t yet tested the device, but on paper it looks like a sound investment, with hardly any corners cut by the manufacturer. There’s an octo-core Spreadtrum SC9863A processor with a PowerVR GE8322 GPU, a 10.1-inch IPS full HD display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage.
Wireless connectivity includes 4G LTE (with the all important B20 band) thanks to a single SIM, 802.11ac, GPS and Bluetooth 5.0. Plus it features a headphone jack, Type-C USB connector, microSD slot and two speakers - a rarity among devices at this price point.
As expected, the two cameras are fairly low resolution (2-megapixel front-facing and and 5-megapixel on the rear) and the 6,000mAh battery won’t perform miracles when it comes to battery life.
At 24 x 15 x 7.9cm and with a weight of only 530g (despite the metal chassis), it's surprisingly portable for a 10.1-inch tablet. Business will also appreciate the fact it runs Android 10 and has the full Google Web Services stack.
Google's One subscription service is a bit of an oddball in the Google family of products. Launched in 2018, it was pitched as a premium, consumer-friendly 'upgrade' to the tech giant's paid Google Drive storage plans, giving subscribers more cloud storage (up to a whopping 30TB) along with some useful extras, like exclusive discounts, premium support and multi-user family plans.
In September 2019, Google added an additional perk to the service, offering automatic phone backup for paying Android users – and today, the company has announced that that feature is being made free of charge, while also being extended to iPhone and iPad owners.
In a new blog post, the search giant has revealed that it's rolling out a new Google One mobile app that will enable users of both platforms to back up their phones for free, even if they aren't Google One subscribers. All you need to do is download the free app and sign in with a Google account.
Backups will include files, text messages, photos, videos, contacts and email, all of which are visible in one place.
There is one caveat though, with storage on the free tier limited to 15GB – the standard amount of Google Drive storage you get with a free Google account. Users who find they need more than this will have to sign up for a paid plan, which starts at $1.99 / £1.99 / AU$4.39 a month.
Apple also offers built-in backup capabilities for iPhones and iPads via its iCloud storage service, although the latter only includes 5GB of space for free.
Along with the new app, Google has added a storage manager feature to the service, which is being rolled out on both the desktop web interface and mobile app.
According to Google, the new feature will help users see how much free storage is available to them and add/remove files without leaving the app. The option to upgrade to a paid plan will also be available on the storage manager.
There are benefits to being a paying One subscriber – a single plan can be shared with up to five other users via family sharing, for example, and opens the doors to premium customer support from the internet company.
In some markets, like in Australia, you'll also get bonus credits that you can redeem on apps on the Play Store, get discounts when shopping on the Google Store online and also enjoy special prices on hotel bookings made via Google Search.
The new Google One app is already available to download from the Play Store, and Google has state that the iOS version is "coming soon".
