Xiaomi’s much-loved affordable Mi Band is soon to get an upgrade. The next iteration of the band— the Mi Band 3 is close to its release. Most recently, the company has officially teased the upcoming fitness band on Twitter.
Earlier to this, the fitness band was spotted after Bluetooth certification in China. Even the company CEO, Lei jun was said to be wearing the Mi Band 3 at the Black Shark launch event.
The teaser image shows a Mi Band 2 like capsule tracker, with a black band. But the display doesn’t come with a physical button to navigate through the band features, which means it’s likely to land with a touch screen display. It is also said to support hand gestures.
There is no leak or clue of the interface on the watch, but it’s likely to have a great battery life as the USP of the series has always been its battery.
Since the previous Mi Band variants were water and dust resistant, it’s safe to expect the same on the Mi Band 3 as well.
Apart from this, we can expect improved accuracy, better gesture sensitivity, and some new activity related features.
The Mi Band 3 will first make its way to China and can be expected to launch in India after that.
In the microblogging site’s ongoing effort to transform into a news outlet, Twitter has confirmed the introduction of a new feature that groups multiple tweets linking to the same news story.
The news-link will be pushed to your timeline and appear as a small preview, with the people that have shared it, along with their tweets, grouped below.
This feature, albeit similar to Facebook’s own method of tidying up the newsfeed, is the latest news-centric Twitter tweak, joining the likes of live news broadcasts and its journalist-focused ‘explore’ tab.
The link-grouping feature is currently available to all Twitter users across iOS, Android and web platforms, so it’s only a matter of time before you’ll see it show up on your timeline.
From today, Windows 10 users will be able to download the free April 2018 update for the operating system, with an official rollout to PCs around the world scheduled to commence on May 8, 2018.
Announced via a blog post by Microsoft's corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi, the update promises a host of new features, many of which are said to streamline your Windows experience and save you time while working.
The new Timeline feature allows users to send their PCs back in time up to 30 days in order to find missing files, documents or projects, meaning you'll be able to return to what you were doing weeks ago in an instant via automatic save states or by search.
Best of all, the Timeline feature will work across your iOS or Android devices while using Microsoft Edge or Office 365.
Also introduced with the update is the new Focus Assist feature, which will provide users with a detailed summary of what they missed while they were goofing off on social media, including emails, notifications or updates.
Focus Assist can be switched on when necessary, or set up for specific times if you're looking to get some work done without any distractions.
Microsoft Edge has also been updated, with the browser receiving a variety of new features, including the ability to mute (or unmute) individual tabs by simply clicking on the tab's audio icon. It also has the ability to view books, PDFs and reading pages in full-screen, autofill options on web payment forms, and even a built-in Grammar Tools button to aid in reading comprehension.
If you've been meaning to take advantage of Windows 10's voice assistant Cortana, you're in luck – the update's new Dictation feature makes it easier to capture your thoughts in a quick and accurate manner.
To start Dictation mode, set your cursor in a text field, then press Win+H and start talking, then watch your words appear on screen.
Of course, these are just some of the new features set to arrive in the latest Windows 10 update, with simplified IT management tools for enterprise users, new creative features for Photos, 3D and Windows Mixed Reality and new security enhancements also on the agenda.
In an effort to clean up its act, Facebook took a leaf out of Reddit’s book and began testing upvote and downvote buttons for comments.
While the trial was carried out in the US, Facebook is now rolling out the new tool to more users. Going by tweets posted since the start of its rollout over the weekend, it appears that most of the users are in Australia and New Zealand.
The new tool has been employed for comments on public posts and, Facebook insists, isn’t similar to the thumbs-up and thumbs-down options for ‘liking’ or ‘disliking’ posts.
Facebook wants its users to use the new tool to downvote “bad comments” that have “bad intentions or [are] disrespectful”, but there doesn’t seem to be anything to stop users from employing the downvote button in a similar manner to the dislike option.
Users, however, can’t seem to make up their minds about the new tool. While Facebook might be doing everything it can to recover its tarnished reputation, it might take time for the new system to work as efficiently as it does on Reddit.
Chinese mobile giants like Huawei aren't having much success getting their devices out to the masses in North America, due partly to increased scrutiny from the US government. It turns out that Huawei might have a plan B ready, just in case it gets abandoned by Google and Android as well.
The South China Morning Post reports that Huawei is working on its own mobile operating system, intended to be ready to go should the friction between the US authorities and the company get even worse.
Both Huawei and ZTE have been declared threats to national security by the US government, though as yet no solid evidence has been made public to back up the claims. As a result, the Chinese firms are finding it hard to do business with carriers and retailers in the States... and Google might conceivably be next.
In fact, Huawei has been working on the OS and something similar for desktops and tablets since 2012, the Post reports. As it's not yet up to the same standard as Android however, the software has remained in-house. If trade and security tensions rise further, Huawei wants a backup plan, insider sources say.
When asked for comment by the Post, Huawei said it "has no plans to release its own OS in the foreseeable future", adding: "We focus on products powered by Android OS and adopt an open attitude towards mobile OS."
Google's core services are blocked in China right now anyway, but a Huawei OS would lose access to both these services and the huge library of Android apps that have been built up over the years. Still, the company might have no other option if it gets the boot from Google other than to go it alone.

Burj Khalifa and HTC have partnered up to create Mission 828, a VR adventure installed at the observatory deck on the 125th floor of Burj Khalifa
The mission, should you choose to accept, takes you to the top of Burj Khalifa to intercept a satellite and then jump down. If that sounds familiar, it is because it loosely resembles the plot of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol where Tom Cruise performed a similar stunt.
The whole experience has been recreated by Burj Khalifa and we got to experience it with an HTC Vive Pro - thanks to HTC and Burj Khalifa. It's done incredibly well and makes you think twice before you jump- even though you're fully aware that its in VR.
Watch the video below with caution in case you're afraid heights.
